“We wanted a shared way of working and a working culture for the whole organisation, and Menestyksen Portaat was the starting point for the coaching. It was equally important, however, to create our own framework and find an approach that suited us. We began with executive team meetings on Teams, followed by a meeting of the whole organisation at which our priorities and goals were brought together in a shared, concrete visual framework. We then worked separately with each of our eight to ten teams on what our ways of working and working culture really meant. Every team tailored the framework to its own needs. We have also used the visual framework in recruitment: it immediately makes clear what we are committed to and what working here is like.
Everyone wanted to take part in the process; there was real participation and good discussion. It was very important for people to see concretely what others do and why. Product development and marketing, for example, view things from different perspectives and use different practices, even though they share the same goal. When people are able and encouraged to speak honestly, they can also accept that some questions do not have an answer. That is not a problem.
We are an organisation of specialists whose work is grounded in facts. There is little point in keeping people in meeting rooms or at endless retreats and development days if nothing concrete comes out of them. Rokmind’s coaching was minimalist in a positive way. Of course, we explored issues and took time to reflect and discuss when necessary, but the focus stayed on the issue and the actions needed to move it forward. The coach also really understood what it means to keep work close to strategy and how to do that in practice. When participants see that the work is relevant and directly connected to their practical work, you are getting to the heart of the matter. In a company with sixteen nationalities and English as its working language, sounding like Shakespeare is no advantage. What matters most is making things clear.”
