“When all leadership at Fonecta was brought together, we also wanted shared principles, values and practices. We chose Rokmind’s Johtamisen Portaat coaching because of our positive previous experience: we had developed Menestyksen Portaat for our major accounts unit and liked the approach, even though delivering it during the coronavirus pandemic had been challenging.

We were looking for a comprehensive set of values for Fonecta that would not need to be continually reinvented and would also be put into practice. Making things concrete mattered throughout the process. We held open discussions in which people could challenge assumptions, share different experiences and suggest alternative ways of working.

Because Johtamisen Portaat also applies to the most senior leaders, we wanted to define it from the other direction too: what kind of leadership does everyone have the right to expect? That brings clarity, autonomy and meaning to work.

Although it is clear that everything we do must serve the company’s interests, we wanted to move away from the strict, highly detailed rules that had previously been in place. We now have a framework we can rely on, within which people can act independently, thoughtfully and with common sense.

During the Johtamisen Portaat process, we created a visual framework to guide our work. Putting things into your own words, visualising them and making them concrete takes more time, but it is worthwhile. It helps prevent the message being forgotten on a wall and gathering dust as daily work takes over, as can sometimes happen.

We already had experience of Rokmind’s effective facilitation, in which insight and challenge played an essential part. They do not simply take what the client says at face value. They get you to think, make your ideas concrete and explain your reasoning. ‘We have always done it this way’ is not, in itself, a justification for anything.
